Spray for Trouble: Chapter 3
By: Firingwall
“Be right back mom!” Tina declared, rushing to the bathroom, “Give me a second!”
Julia Parker sighed, taking a brief drag off her cigarette, before saying, “Alright, but don’t take too long or we’ll miss the movie!”
Emma sighed peacefully, taking a very long drag from her own cigarette before blowing it out. Curious, Mrs. Parker asked, “Something the matter?”
“No,” Emma replied with a pleasant smile, “I’m quite alright.” And she really was. While enjoying some of the changes brought upon by her spray bottle, she had been feeling really tense and worried a lot of the time as well. So, going out to a movie with a friend and her mom, especially one that she had been really wanting to see (for some reason now), Emma felt at peace about everything for once.
For a few hours, I can stop thinking about this bottle, she thought, the object resting carefully within her purse after getting it back from Tina.
There was a sudden buzz from Julia’s purse, catching her attention. She pulled out her cell and between drags, answered, “Hello? ...oh Trevor! Shouldn’t you be… OH! I see! Don’t worry, we can get that for you. It’ll be alright. See you later sweetie! Mommy loves you!”
Emma could almost hear an audible groan over the line, Julia chuckling as she hung up. “So,” she said, taking quick drag as she turned to Emma, “My lwittle baby boy forgot his wallet in his room! So forgetful! Mind grabbing that?”
Despite the playful teasing, one of Mrs. Parker’s favorite past times, Emma paid that no mind as her head froze for half a second. She nearly choked the smoke she just inhaled, wheezily asking, “G-go to T-Trevor’s room?”
Julia nodded, and Emma grinned, excitement quickly building within her. “I can do that!” She said happily, “I’ll be back in a sec!”
Without wasting another moment, Emma dashed back up the stairs, careful not to drop her smoke as she hurried along. She always wanted to see what her crush’s room was like. She only ever saw a brief glimpse of it as she passed by it on the way to Tina’s room.
Reaching the top of the stairs, the young smoker arrived at her destination and entered. The sight of the place was both expected, but yet somehow disappointing nonetheless upon seeing it. His room was messy with dirty clothes lying about and random things all over the ground. His bed was untidy while several swimsuit models and band posters were splattered across the walls. It very much reminded her of a lot of boys’ bedrooms she had visited during group studies in high school.
Regardless, Emma put the mild disappointment out of her mind and glanced around. “Guess it was too much to hope for something more clean and tidy,” she mumbled, blowing out a gentle cloud of smoke, “Oh well, I guess this means he isn’t perfect.”
She sighed and her eyes fell upon his dresser in the far corner of the room. The target object was in sight, Trevor’s wallet laying out in the open on the only thing somehow not covered in clutter. Not sure how he missed it in the first place, Emma hurried over to grab it.
But before she did, the young woman took a good look at it. It was pretty plain from her perspective. It was brown with a velcro flap holding it closed. It looked like something from the dollar store or a rack where everything was over seventy-five percent off.
All in all, it wasn’t much to look at.
That thought sunk into Emma’s mind as her eyes haphazardly wandered over to her own purse wrapped over her shoulder. She stared at it and back at the wallet, completely quiet as the gears turned in her head. I wonder, she thought, should… should I?
After a bit of internal pondering, Emma shrugged and pulled out the spray bottle. “Well,” she mumbled, “It couldn’t hurt to give him an upgraded wallet.”
She carefully removed his cash, credit cards, and ID (the last thing she needed was the spray bottle to screw with any of that stuff) from the wallet before placing it on the ground. Clearing things away and aiming carefully, Emma pressed down on the bottlehead and watched as its liquid hit the object.
Emma’s heart skipped a beat and her jaw dropped, her body nervously twitching as the item morphed and shifted. It grew in width and length by quite a bit, its coloring turning black as night. The material changed to a tough leather as gold accents appeared across it. Wrapping it all together was a large, over the shoulder strap.
“Ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap!” Stammered Emma, her panic causing the bottle to slip from her grasp. “This is not good, not good at all!”
She picked up the newly minted purse, looking at it horrifyingly. Nothing about it was right at all. This was more something she would want to carry around and own instead of her crush.
Shitshitshit! She thought a mile a minute, her eyes going all over the place as she looked around the room. Should she throw it out? Should she hide it? Maybe she should toss it under the bed?
Was there even a way to fix any of this? Emma had no clue how the spray even worked at changing reality in the first place. The old woman wasn’t clear nor explained anything before she vanished. As far as Emma was concerned, she was stuck!
“Hey Em!” Tina declared, stepping into the room, “What’s taking you? We’re gonna miss the movie! Did you find…”
Emma snapped over to Tina and slammed the door shut, looking at her fully panicked. “I’msorryI’msorry!” She stammered out, holding to purse up to her, “I didn’t mean to… it wasn’t supposed to… I’m sorry!”
Tina looked at the purse and then at Emma, her expression one of bafflement and confusion. “Ummmm, what’s wrong?”
“I only meant to give your brother a cooler-looking wallet, I swear!”
Tina sighed and rolled eyes. “What’s your deal?” She asked, rubbing her forehead and taking a puff from her cig, “Trevor’s been carrying a purse around ever since Freshman year. I know you find it weird, but it’s just more convenient for him to carry everything around in it and…”
Tina stared at Emma, the panic girl’s face reading completely differently than she thought. Her eyes glanced behind her and at the spray bottle on the floor. At that moment did it finally click with her the situation.
“Oooooooooooh,” Tina mumbled, “The purse and your panic… it’s… oh.”
“Look Tina!” Emma pleaded, “I swear it wasn’t supposed to be like this. I only wanted to give him a cooler wallet andTINA! What are you-”
With speeds that Emma had never seen, Tina zipped over to the spray bottle and snatched it up. She then zoomed right over to a pair of dirty old sneakers that laid in the corner of the room. Just as Emma finally reacted, Tina gave the footwear a quick spray of the bottle.
“Well if we’re changing him,” she huffed, “Then I deserve a shot as well! This is for him constantly harassing me about my smoking and all of his preaching about it.”
“STOP THAT!” Emma yelled, rushing over and pulling the bottle from Tina’s hand. However, there was nothing she could do anymore. Both ladies watched as the shoes turned into a pair of black heels, matching the new purse quite well.
Emma looked from the shoes to Tina, angrily snapping, “Don’t you ever do that again! That was freakin’ dickish of you!”
Tina flinched, the busty girl stepping back. She had never seen Emma lose her temper like that, even in all of her old and new memories of her. “S-sorry,” Tina mumbled, glancing at the ground, “I-I won’t do that again…”
Both girls looked at each other, quiet and uncomfortable. That would have gone on longer if not for someone yelling downstairs, “Hey! The movie is going to start soon, and I don’t want us to miss it!”
With that, both girls snapped to attention and got moving, Emma shoving everything back into Trevor’s new purse before she left. She was completely on edge now, nervous about what she was going to happen now.
After a quick drive, the three women arrived at the movie theater. Conveniently, it was the one that Trevor worked at, making it easy to drop off his purse. Tina said nothing the entire drive, while Emma just remained a ball of worry. Even taking the occasional puff from her cigarette did nothing at this point to relax her.
Oh god, she thought over and over as they pulled in, what’s he going to look like? Is he going to act differently now? I should have never done something this stupid! I shoulda just stuck to experimenting with Tina and my stuff…
Parking the car, Tina’s mom looked back and said with an amused look. “Alright,” she said, “Smoke it up girls. Last one for two solid hours.”
Tina nodded and took out her pack, lighting up a cig. Emma didn’t say or do anything, still too distracted and lost in her own mind. “Emma?” Mrs. Parker asked, “All out? Would you like one of mine?”
The mom offered her own carton, catching Emma’s attention. “Oh! Ah… I’m fine. I… I just rather get this to Trevor and get the tickets.” She said, her voice hesitant and concerned.
“Oh sure. We’ll see you inside then!” Mrs. Parker smiled and lit up one of her own cigs.
With that, Emma got out of the car and headed for the front doors, stomping out her own cigarette. Grasping the new purse tightly in her hands, she marched towards the front doors. Her body felt stiff and awkward, everything about herself just an uneasy, uncomfortable mess.
She opened the door and glanced around. There was a small ticket booth before the concessions and hallways that led to the theater rooms, along with a few tables set up for people to wait or eat at before the films started. At one of them sat Trevor, anxiously checking his phone and watching the door.
Her heart skipped a beat again when he looked up and saw her. He sighed with relief and hurried over. “Thanks Emma!” He said with an appreciative smile, taking the purse, “I can’t believe I forgot this.”
“Y-yeah, it… it was kind of just sitting out in the open in your room.” Emma blushed, trying her best to focus on Trevor and not his feet. For on them were a particular, worrisome pair of shoes. They were black pumps with gold heels, which seemed to oddly fit him and his new purse rather well.
“Soooo, where my mom and sis?” He asked, glancing around, “I thought they were coming or something?”
“OH! Ah… they’re in the car, finishing their smokes. They’ll be in soon. I’m just getting the tickets right now.”
He sighed and rolled his eyes, mumbling, “Of course they are. Well, at least they didn’t try to light up inside again.”
He gave her a nod one last nod, taking off to get back to work. Emma watched him head off into a backroom, his movement having a bit of a strut to it now with his heels. Her cheeks grew warmer and a part of her felt antsy watching.
She shook her head and headed over to the counter to buy tickets. In the back of her mind, she thought, well… I guess he doesn’t look too bad in them and those purse and shoes go pretty well together… I wonder how they look with a skirt.
Emma shook her head again, tossing the thought from her mind, and paid for three tickets. She got a drink and big bucket of popcorn from the concessions just as both Julia and Tina stepped in the place, the fresh scent of smoke clinging to them. Emma handed Julia the bucket and her ticket as she took Tina to the side.
Privately, Emma took a deep breath and said to Tina, “Listen, sorry for snapping at you like that. I just got so…”
“It’s fine,” Tina replied, scratching the back of her head, “It was kind of stupid of me to do that. I won’t do it again out. ...sooooo, how did my brother look in heels? I still can’t really picture it yet.”
Emma blushed and looked to the side, biting the bottom of her plump lips. “He ah…” she mumbled, “He looked… good. He was really working those heels.”
“...think he needs a skirt to go with them?” Tina asked.
Emma shot her a dirty look, her friend quickly apologizing. However, in the back of her mind, she thought, well… it’s not like I didn’t think the same thing…
Two hours later, the three ladies strolled out of the theater, two of them chatting up a storm like a bunch of schoolgirls. “He’s soooo dreamy!” sighed Tina, rubbing her thighs together, “I hope to have a guy someday come and save me!”
“He’s certainly more musculature and hunky than your dad, that’s for sure!” Julia chuckled, “Maybe I should have him hit the gym with me sometime and try some of those…”
Emma, on the other hand, had her mind elsewhere. It was somewhere near the ice cream scene in the film that her thoughts wandered off. She was still thinking about Trevor and how he had changed. He still seemed the same to her, minus the new feminine additions. So, perhaps the changes weren’t too bad… but it didn’t help her from stopping feeling wrong about her actions regardless.
“Earth to Emma!” Tina declared, waving her hand in front of her friend’s face, “You still with us? We’re trying to talk to you!”
“OH!” Emma snapped, looking at the ladies beside her, “Eh… ah… sorry. Was just thinking about... stuff.”
Mrs. Parker smirked, saying, “I can imagine. Maybe you need some personal time before we go?”
“WHAT?!” Emma stammered, “N-n-n-no! Th-that’s not it!”
“Whatever you say my dear. You’re a grown woman now and you have needs like the rest of us. I understand very well.” The mom’s eyes were on Emma’s purse, the young lady blushing as she remembered that her black vibrator was in there.
Tina glanced between the two, thoughts running through her head quickly. “Say,” she said, “Why don’t you head home mom? Trevor’s shift is going to wrap up in a bit and we can catch a ride with him.”
“You sure?” Mrs. Parker replied surprisingly, “You know he doesn’t like you smoking in his car and it’s going to be a while before you can smoke again.”
“We’ll be fiiiiine!” Tina said, putting an arm around Emma, “We’re just going to chat and have some fun. Don’t mind us!”
“Well if you say so,” Mrs. Parker answered, taking her carton out, “I’ll see you home later then.” With that, she headed out the door, quickly putting a cigarette in her mouth and lighting up the moment she stepped outside.
“What’s the big idea?” Emma asked, “Why did you…”
“Come ooooon,” Tina said, rolling her eyes, “I know you interested in seeing what my brother is like now. The whole heels and purse thing really ticked you off, more than I’ve ever seen you act before. Why don’t we spend some time with him and you can see what he’s like now?”
Emma paused. She did want to see what Trevor was like now. She thought he seemed fine, but she hadn’t really spent much time with him since the change. Maybe this was the excuse she needed to see what was up with him.
“Welllll alright,” she mumbled quietly, “But no more changes to him!”
“Scout’s honor!” Tina beamed.
Before she could question her friend being a scout, Trevor appeared in the hallway, still strutting around in his pumps. He saw the two and looked confused, approaching them. “Hey,” he asked, “I thought I saw mom leave. Why are you two still here?”
“Welllllll,” Tina said, “I thought we could catch a ride with you when you’re done! I mean, you’re gonna be wrapping up soon, right?”
Trevor’s eyes narrowed, looking at her suspiciously. “Alright, what are you planning? It’s not like you to want to hang around with me or be away from her cigarettes or your MMOs for long.”
“Nothing!” Tina promised, “I just thought we could hang around a bit if that’s alright. Plus, Emma said she’s wanted to see all the behind the scenes stuff at a theater! Maybe you can show her and me around!”
Trevor glanced at Emma. His expression was less serious and suspicious, looking at her gently. Her heart felt like it fluttered just a tad, feeling a bit relieved that he seemed to trust or like her on some level.
She gave a small nod and Trevor sighed, “Well… I don’t see why not. Let’s just go check with my manager first. I don’t want to cause any problems.”
“Thanks bro!” Tina declared, Trevor giving her another suspicious look.
He turned around and headed back for the lobby, both ladies following him back into the area. “See?” Tina whispered to Emma, “The perfect excuse! We’ll spend some time with him and we’ll see what he’s like. I’m sure he’s still the same guy you’ve been crushing on for years, heels and all!”
“T-T-Tina!” Stuttered Emma, her expression quickly filling with horror, “Don’t… don’t say that and… and…”
“Come on!” Tina nudged her, chuckling, “It’s obvious!”
Emma didn’t answer, looking at the ground as she followed her friend’s brother. This was embarrassing. She felt like a teenager all over again.
She shook her head and focused straight ahead, trying her best to push her embarrassment back down, deep within her. She wanted to see what Trevor was like and that’s what she needed to focus on. No more spraying stuff and making things odder than they already were…
...even if, admittedly, watching Trevor strut around his pumps was rather enticing to her for some reason.
